Mommy Masterclass: Balancing Work, Family, and Sanity

Updated: Apr 17, 2024

Hi Mommy,

I know how overwhelming it is to be a mom. We are overjoyed about our little ones' arrival but are so soo soo soooooo tired. We don't know whether it's day or night, the clothes are on the floor, the home is messed up, you have not taken a shower, you are breastfeeding, brain fog keeps on ruining most things, and you just want to sleep for 2-3 days straight. And if you are fortunate enough like me, you must join the office 1 month after delivery. So how do we keep ourselves sane?

There were a couples of mistakes that I did

I came across this book, "Do it Today" by Darius Foroux, which might be helpful for you too. It's all about overcoming procrastination and boosting productivity. Here are some key points to consider:

  1. Stop Blaming, Start Focusing: Instead of blaming circumstances or distractions, focus on what needs to be done.

  2. Eliminate, Eliminate, Eliminate: Get rid of anything that's causing distraction, whether it's checking social media, watching videos, or constantly messaging.

  3. Reflect on Past Successes: Take time to remember your achievements, as this can reduce stress and improve well-being.

Remember, it's not normal to constantly check your phone, gossip all day, or get bored easily.

Chapter 2: Building Effective Systems

  1. Focus on Systems, Not Willpower: Instead of relying solely on willpower, create systems that support your productivity, such as setting deadlines, accountability to others, working in intervals, exercising, maintaining a healthy diet, and eliminating distractions.

Chapter 3: Maximizing Efficiency and Time Management

  1. Know Thy Time: Keep an honest activity log for at least two weeks to identify where your time is being spent.

  2. Identify Non-Productive Activities: Review your activity log to pinpoint activities that aren't yielding any returns.

  3. Eliminate Time Wasters: Once you've identified them, work on eliminating these time-wasting activities.

Chapter 4: Breaking Unproductive Habits

  1. Avoid Overworking: Recognize the importance of rest and avoid burnout.

  2. Minimize Worry: Don't let excessive worrying consume your thoughts and energy.

  3. Stay Open to Learning: Avoid being stubborn and closed-minded; embrace new ideas and experiences.

  4. Limit Distractions: Resist the urge to constantly check social media and news feeds.

  5. Face Reality: Deal with problems head-on instead of escaping through distractions or substances.

  6. Learn to Say No: Don't overcommit yourself; learn to decline tasks when necessary.

  7. Stay Organized: Write things down to stay organized and prevent loss of productivity.

  8. Prioritize Learning: Make continuous learning a priority in your life.

  9. Embrace Systems: Understand the value of systems in problem-solving and productivity.

Chapter 5: Evening Rituals for Success

  1. Reflect on Your Day: Take time to review your day and learn from both your successes and mistakes.

  2. Plan for Tomorrow: Set goals and deadlines for the next day to reduce anxiety and increase productivity.

  3. Reduce Decision Fatigue: Select your outfits and make other decisions ahead of time to conserve mental energy.

  4. Visualize Success: Spend time visualizing your day ahead to start the next day with purpose and clarity.

I made a lot of mistakes during my postpartum period and I know how much we want things to settle down, I wish I could help all the mothers around the world during this period and I am aware that's impossible. But this is just from my own experience and following the book really really helped me. This is the least I can do. Also you don't have to over do it, just take one day at a time and life will get sorted slowly and steadily. I promise.... There's always light at the end of the tunnel right.
